Production Treatment

Music Video
Cry Me A River by Justin Timberlake

Duration
The video will be between 3-4 minutes, but that is after we've cut out the second verse of the song because the song is almost 5 minutes long.

Audience
The main target audience of the video is young female teenagers, but it also appeals to a male audience, with the main demographic being teenagers and young adults.

Resume
The song is supposedly a re-telling of Timberlake's split with Britney Spears. Including accusations of her infidelity with lyrics like, "You don't have to say what you did/I already know, I found out from him/Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be/And don't it make you sad about it." The music video, depicts him exacting revenge upon Spears, by breaking into her house and filming himself with another woman kissing passionately, and watching as she returns to find the video playing on her television. The narrative of our video is of the main characters girlfriend committing suicide by throwing herself into a river whilst crying because she cheated on her boyfriend, which fits in well with the title of the song. This part of the story won't be seen in our actual video, as it is a controversial subject. The video then consists of the main character looking for his girlfriends necklace and eventually finds it, not knowing his girlfriend cheated on him. Then, at the end, the main character goes to the river were his girlfriend committed suicide, and is given a letter by a mystery man showing evidence his girlfriend cheated on him, which leads him to drop the necklace in the river, making slight reference to the last scene in Titanic.

Suggested Elements
  • Performance - the main character will be making multiple references to Michael Jackson, with some of his dance moves. He will also be making various acrobatic moves which we will play backwards to make it look like the main character has superhero powers.
  • Costumes - the main character will be wearing a black long coat, a black hat and a black glove, so there is a sense of mystery.
  • SFX - we will be playing some shots backwards to make it look like the main character has special powers, for example, in one of the shots, we are simply going to make the performer drop a necklace to the ground, but once it is played backwards, it will look like the performer has forced the necklace off the ground into his hand. Other effects we will use include using green material on the performers' shoes and glasses and add effects, which will resemble the same technique used for green screen.
  • Key Locations - the main location we will use is Salford Quays, as it is the perfect location for the scene when the performer finds out his girlfriend cheated on him and throws her necklace into the river.
